Clean your hands using proper hand sensitization. Loop flexible over your ears. Pull it down so that it's covering under your chin; save it to your face by pinching over your nose. Be sure it's on good and secure. Before taking out the mask, sanitary your hand sanitizer. Take out the mask using the ear loops. Study it to be sure it can be reused. Has it been negotiated? Is it wet? Visibly soiled? If it is, go ahead and throw it away, then do hand hygiene. If the mask is OK to reuse, make it for storage. (Next step.) Fold the mask in half (lengthwise or width wise), so the outdoor surfaces are touching each other. Place it prudently into your clean storage area/bag. Seal the bag, if you're using a paper one; if using a soft baggie, permission it opens.
Do hand hygiene. To reapply the reusable masks, first, do hand hygiene, then open the mask storing bag. Grasp the mask by the elastic ear loops to eliminate it from the bag, then look to see where the outside of the face mask is by locating your identifying reusable face mark. Use the earrings to put it on and pleat it under your chin. Protect it to your face at the bridge of your nose. Do hand hygiene, and stay safe and fit. NIOSH research to monitor the effects of N95 respirator on pregnant women:In the US women comprise of approximately half of the workforce. At a given time 10% of women of child-bearing age are likely to be pregnant. Amid the outbreak of COVID-19 there are many women in the workforce who are performing duty day and night. There are nurses, doctors and other female health care staff who risk their lives by performing duty. It was important to conduct the research in the current scenario as the usage of mask has increased exponentially. Moreover, there was little data available to ascertain the safety of mask on pregnant women. Hence, NIOSH conducted research to investigate the safety of N95 face mask on pregnant women. Feedback of pregnant women on the usage of N95 respirator: Some people have complained about difficulty in breathing while wearing respirator mask. Especially many pregnant women have reported complains about feeling short of breath while donning on the mask. This uneasiness increases as the pregnancy progresses. Hence concern among people arose with regard to the impact of N95 respirator in the well being of the pregnant women and the fetus. Findings of research: NIOSH conducted a research in which 22 healthy, non-smoking pregnant women who were in their later pregnancy stages and 22 healthy, non-pregnant and non-smoking women of similar age and physique participated. All the women were given same type of respirator mask. They were tested for an hour while donning on the mask and without the mask. They went through a range of activities during the study including sitting, pedaling an exercise bicycle and just standing. Their observations were recorded. These observations included heart rate and functionality, breathing rate, temperature, blood pressure, percentage of oxygen and carbon dioxide in their arteries and most importantly any signs of exertion resulting from the use of respirator. It was discovered that there were no significant differences in the observation of pregnant versus non-pregnant women. Apart from that, there were no differences in fetal heart rate with or without the respirator. The study helped NIOSH to ascertain that the difficulty in breathing could be due to feelings of anxiety resulting from the discomfort of wearing the mask. The change in breathing style from usual nose breathing to mouth breathing could be a factor causing the discomfort. Also, other underlying medical conditions such as asthma or chronic bronchitis could also contribute to the breathing difficulties experienced by the individuals. However, caution must be observed with regard to the research’s findings as the tests were conducted for only one hour with and without the mask. In most cases, pregnant female health care staff has to don the mask for longer duty hours. Therefore, NIOSH recommends more and deeper studies should take place in order to better understand the impact of N95 respirator on pregnant women. Importance of respirators for health care workers:Hence it is safe to conclude that N95 respirators are not known to have adverse effects on pregnant women. It is hence safe to say that they must buy respirator mask when they are performing their duty at hospitals and other health care facilities. However, they must check with a concerned health professional to ascertain if there are any contraindications with regard to wearing the mask. This will help ensure their own as well as the fetus’s safety to the maximum.
A disposable N95 mask (respirator) is a safety device that covers the nose and mouth and assistance guard the wearer from breathing in some hazardous substances
Place both hands totally over the mask and inhale sharply. Be careful not to bother the location of the mask. The mask should pull into your face. If air leaks around your face or eyes, regulate the nose piece and straps and repeat the positive pressure check. Background of N95 respirator masks: N95 respirators were initially developed for industrial application. These highly specialized masks clean out as much as 95% of contamination. The respirators approved by FDA and NIOSH are used in healthcare facilities to significantly reduce the impact of hazardous exposure on the healthcare workers. It is important to note here that N95 masks used for medical purpose are classified as single-use products. Usage of N95 masks: The structure of N95 respirator masks is composed of nonwoven material presented in the form of layers which traps the hazardous particles into the dense network of the fibers. These fibers usually made of polypropylene are extremely thin, as much as a single micron making it impossible for the particles to pass through. Furthermore, the electrostatically charged material of the mask keeps the particles intact. However, as the particles build up into the mask it makes it difficult to breathe. That is why they are supposed to be thrown away carefully after single use. There are two outward protective layers on the mask. These layers that protect the inside and outside of the mask are made using spunbounding. Between these layers is the pre-filtration layer. The needled nonwoven structure of this layer adds to the cohesiveness of the mask. The last layer further augments the filtration efficiency through its highly efficient meltblown polarized nonwoven material. Utmost care and precaution must be taken while handling respirators for an effective performance. Firstly wear the mask very carefully in a clean environment. You must wear it all the time while you are in a contaminated area. Taking off the mask even for about 10% of the time while you are in the contaminated area will kill the purpose of the respirator mask. Testing of N95 masks: -These highly intricate and technologically advanced masks go through rigorous testing measures to ensure their effectiveness. Before going through the tests the masks are kept in a restricted environment having a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius and 85% humidity level. The idea is to check the respirator’s filtration ability that must be above the certification level during all the situations. Some of these tests include: -
Summary: -To sum up, N95 respirators are used to protect the wearer from the hazards present in the work environment. They keep away things like mucus; infected droplets, spit and blood splatter from the wearer’s mouth and nose.
